| Abstract: | Euphemisms as a figure of speech are mild, pleasant, neutral or inoffensive expressions used instead of harsh, blunt, coarse, or unpleasant ones. They are often used out of courtesy or consideration for other people's feelings. The paper probes into the common formation, sociopsychological factors, and communicative functions of euphemisms. |
