回顾了几千年的中西文化交流史 ,并以此作为比较新闻学的框架和基础。中国现代化之所以取得了今天的成就 ,是与比较分不开的。中西交流史上的两个基本事实 :首先 ,无论出于何种动机 ,西方人主动迈出了靠近东方的步伐 ;其次 ,欧洲人对中国文化大都只是停留在欣赏、研究和把玩的层面上 ,或仅作为一个认识自身的参照物 ,并不想付诸实行什么。欧洲人没有真正拿走中国的文化 ,实际上 ,中国的思想、文化对西方社会几乎没有产生过黄钟大吕般的社会影响。中西交流的基本事实是 :西方拿走了中国文化的细节 ,而中国拿来了西方文化的方法

Comparison and Communication: China's Two Revolutions

This paper concerns an unbalanced situation of cultural communications between China and the west. Although the westerners approached Chinese culture first, they hardly adopted the Chinese culture; on the other hand,the Chinese made a slow visit to western culture but absorbed it fundamentally. The paper asserts that it was the cultural comparison and communication that made China successful as a nation.
