| Abstract: | The use of metaphor often makes the language forceful and effective. This seems to have something to do with the aesthetic elements in its mechanism: its novelty, its conciseness, its vividness, its indirectness, and its subtleness. A close analysis may furnish us with pretty good idea of how the aesthetic elements in metaphor do their contributions to the force and effectiveness of the language. |
