20世纪的中国文化保守主义,源有所自,流有所变,既是旧时代的承续,更是新世纪的创制。文化保守主义要固守的传统,本身就是变革中的事物。当现实与传统发生冲突时,保守主义者总是审慎地改进传统,从而使现实成为有传统可依靠的现实。学通中西的文化保守主义思想家、学问家们,自觉运用人类文明的新成果、新方法、新思路,来整理、研究、开掘中华传统文化博大精课的道德价值和伦理精义,取得了卓越的成绩,在继承历史的精神遗产与开辟未来的思想资源两方面,都作出了积极的贡献。文化保守主义所要表达的是一套完整的价值系统。作为价值系统,它既可以是某种特定的意识形态,又可以是一般的社会心理。从20世纪实际历史表现看,作为社会心理的保守主义的意义、作用和影响,远远大于作为意识形态的保守主义。我们应当承认文化保守主义对民众思想实际影响的历史必然性和合理性,同时又要引导人们避免为其后顾性的文化取向、泛道德主义的价值取向所束缚,真正以健康、科学、乐观的心态,尊重历史,善待当下,创造未来。
