中国共产党自成立之初起,就把解决民族问题、实现民族平等作为中国新民主主义革命的一项重要内容,但正式提出以民族区域自治作为解决我国民族问题的一项政策,并且进一步将民族区域自治作为国家的一项基本政治制度则经历了长期的探索过程,民族区域自治制度从最初确定为国家的一项政治制度,到定位于国家的重要政治制度,再到定位于国家的一项基本政治制度,总共走过了50多年的历程。本文分阶段详细地分析了这项制度在国家政治生活中地位变化的过程及背景。
