从意合形合看汉英翻译中句子结构的不对应性——《红楼梦》及其英译本为例

汉英句子结构最主要的区别在于意合与形合.意合与形合是两种语言不同的组织特点,各有其深厚的文化传统.汉语注重话题,英语注重主谓,汉语的话题句侧重于语义结构,英语的主谓句侧重于语法结构.汉语句子中动词十分丰富,英语句子只能有一个谓语动词.本文以<红楼梦>及其英译本中的句子为例,分析比较汉英两种语言因句法结构之差异在翻译中所产生的不对应性.

Differences between Chinese and English Sentence Structure in C/E Translation in Form of Parataxis and Hypotaxis A Dream of Red Mansions and Its English Version as Examples

The most important difference between Chinese sentence structure and English sentence structure is parataxis and hypotaxis. Parataxis and hypotaxis are two Languages' different organizational characteristics and have their profound cultural tradition. Chinese is a topic-prominent language laying greater emphasis on meaning of words while English is subject-prominent language putting emphasis on grammar. A Chinese sentence is rich in verbs, but there is only one used as predicate in an English sentence. This paper is to cite some sentences from A Dream of Red Mansion and its English version to analyse these differences in C/E translation.
