驮娘江流域壮族的欧贵婚姻

Ougui Marriage among the Zhuang People on the Tuoniangjiang River

On the Tuoniangjiang River in the border area of Guangxi and Yunnan, there live approximate three hundred thousand Zhuang people. Until the present, the Zhuang people living there still practice a form of marriage that is known as Ougui marriage in their own language. The form of marriage is characterized with uxorilocal residence, in which, the bridegroom goes to live with the bride's family on marriage. The husband and wife are harmonious, and so is the family, in the community where Ougui marriage is prevalent. The form of marriage functions in carrying on the ancestral line, raising the young and supporting the old, adjusting the sex balance in the family, and guaranteeing the access of the poor to marriage. Rice farming and relatively close settings have been the preconditions of the prolonged Ougui marriage. Today, Ougui marriage has come in line with the contemporary society gradually, and has become part of independent marriage.
