On Jiang Jie's Poetic Style

Jiang Jie, author of Zhu Shan Ci , is one of four greatest poets in the late Song Dynasty. He was highly admired for his moral integrity, but his poems were not rightly recognized. This article suggests that Jiang Jie has a unique poetic style of his own, which is, to some extent, related to his family background and moral standing. Jiang was born into a wealthy family with rich traditions, but unfortunately was made homeless in his forties by the war. Learned as he was, he refused to serve in the new government for his national integrity, and chose to live a wandering life. Therefore, it can be said that Jiang's writing style is largely influenced by the happenings to his family and his country, marked with a unique combination of undaunted heroic spirit and restrained gentle grace.
