The Presentation of Hardy's Evolution for Refinement in The Hand of Berta

Hardy criticizes the capitalist society by uncovering such problems as marriage,religion,morals,education and women＇s liberation. In the novel the author informs us of the process that Berta first struggled against the bigwigs and then eventually submitted to them. By describing the psychological changes of the heroine,the author gets the readers to feel the heroine＇s helplessness and meanwhile,and shows reflects his evolution for refinement.
