通商口岸体系的形成与中国近代城市体系的变动——基于人口史的考察

近代城市体系的研究不能脱离对传统政区的深入探讨。晚清时期以上海为中心的通商口岸体系与以北京为代表的传统政区体系分庭抗礼,是近代中国“半殖民地半封建”社会的结构性写照。通商口岸体系形成后中国城市的发展变化,从总体上说,应是城市体系的“近代化”,而不是所谓的“城市化”。

Formation of the Treaty Port Network and Changes of Modern Chinese City System: Based on the Survey of the Population History

The studies of modern city system cannot be done without the deep exploration of traditional political areas.In late Qing Dynasty,it is the fact of the modern China's "semi-colonial and semi-feudal" societal structure that the treaty port network centered on Shanghai stood up as an equal to the traditional political capital of Beijing.Generally speaking,the development and changes of China's cities after the formation of the treaty port network should be regarded as the "modernization" of city system rather than the so-called "urbanization."
