Abstract:Asian American males, due to their "abnormal" sexual orientation, have heen dissraced and even silenced in the A- sian American community. However, since they conform to the feminized and castrated Asian male stereotypes, they become a fetish for the mainstream white community. This article attempts to analyze Russell Leong's first collection of short stories, Phoenix Eyes, to explore the ethnic and gender identity trouble faced by Asian American queers and their endeavors to develop their own ethnic and gender identity.
Keywords:Phoenix Eyes  Asian American literature  ethnic and gender identity  queer
