| Abstract: | In this paper an investigation is made into the tonal evolutions in Chinese characters belonging to mid ancient secondary voiced initials in Wuhua subdialect of the Hakka dialect with the help of statistic analysis. First, a brief introduction to the system of initials, finals and tones of Wuhua subdialect is given and the principles for statistic analysis of the tonal evolutions are examined. Then a statistic analysis of the tonal evolutions of 1,200 characters belonging to mid ancient secondary voiced initials in Wuhua subdialect is attempted, with results of the investigation displayed. Finally, the main viewpoints thus obtained are presented. |
