庞尚鹏是明代中期与海瑞同时的著名经济改革家和清官。他一生为官清廉 ,为民请命 ,首倡赋役改革 ,大力整顿盐政 ,重振九边屯务 ,重视教育子女 ,所撰《庞氏家训》与《颜氏家训》齐名。此外 ,庞尚鹏重视调查研究 ,因势利导 ,兼顾各方 ,民为邦本与反抑商等思想 ,也是值得称道的

PONG Shang-peng--An Economic Reformer of the Ming Dynasty of China

PONG Shang-peng, a well-known economic reformer and upright official in the middle of Ming Dynasty of China, was a contemporary with HAI Rui, once the Prime Minister of the time. Incorruptible all his life, he pled for the people, initiated reformation of taxes and corvee system, carried out energetic rectification of salt_sales rules and regulations, and retored the vigor of stationed garrison,putting emphasis on the moral education of children. His book, the PONG Family Instruction, enjoys equal fame with another book--The YAN Family Instruction. Moreover, such ideas of his are also praiseworthy: emphasis on investigation and study, guidance of action according to circumstances, giving consideration to all parties or aspects, regarding people as the foundation of the country, and his objection to the policy of restraints on commerce.
