Condorcet and the Debate on Women in the Age of Enlightenment

There was a furious debate on women among intellectuals in the age of Enlightenment.They argued passionately over women’s nature,their social position,their education,and the institutions of marriage and family.Condorcet also participated in this debate.He was a disciple of the doctrine of natural rights,and was one of the first modern advocates of women’s right and equality.He claimed natural rights are the same to all,without the difference of sex.Condorcet asked for women equal political rights,equal opportunities of receiving education,and equal positions in family and marriage life.His thought contributed greatly to the movement of women.
