| Abstract: | The Intermarriage for Pacification in ancient China was an attempt to pacify the rulers of ethnic groups in the border areas by marrying daughters of the central imperial family to them. This paper analyses the motives of the intermarriages for pacification between the Liao and the Xixia (Tangut), Asalan Uighurs, ancient Tibetand Zupu and explores the characteristics and effect. The paper also analyses some controversialissues and knotty problems, discussingwhether or notLiao has had the intermarriages for pacification relationship with Zupu. Also itmakes a clarification of some factors in the intermarriages for pacification. |
