Abstract:This article introduces Merrill Swain's Output Hypothesis in terms of its basic claims,functions,and modeling strategies for second language learning.Taking one of the output-based activities,Task-based Teaching Approach,as example,the article illustrates the application of Output Hypothesis in the foreign language teaching,and then summarizes its implication for foreign language teaching in China.
