荣睿、普照与鉴真东渡

唐代高僧鉴真东渡弘法传戒是应日本国使者荣睿、普照的邀请而进行的。他们的东渡,经历了常人难以想象的艰难困苦。在艰难困苦面前,邀请者与被邀请者都表现出非凡的勇气和胆略。双方执着的追求,坚定的信念,相互感染,相互激励,最终共同完成了东渡的壮举,共同谱写了一曲中日文化交流的凯歌。不少论著只讲鉴真在其中的贡献,不讲或很少讲荣睿等人的贡献,这是有失公允的。

Rongrui, Puzhao and the Eastward Sea Voyage of Jianzhen

It was to under the invitation of Rongrui and Puzhao, the two messengers from Japan that Jianzhen, the senior monk of Tang Dynasty made his eastward sea voyage to lecture on Buddhist doctrines with experiences of unimaginable difficulties. In this process both the senders and receiver of the invitation exhibited extraordinary courage and insight. With unyielding pursuit, steadfast faith, they influenced and inspired each other, and finally achieved the heroic undertaking and, through mutual effort, composed a victorious song of cultural exchange between China and Japan. Yet there is a lack of impartiality as to the personal contributions of Jianzhen and Rongrui since many academic works eulogized the former while few or none have mentioned the latter.
