| Abstract: | In the late Qing Dynasty intellectuals ran modern vernacular newspapers to publicize the reform,aiming to enlighten folks and save the nation.These newspapers not only spread ideas about reform and revolution,but also promoted the transmission of the vernacular and paved the way for the May 4th Vernacular Literature Movement and the Modern Mandarin Movement. |
