The disparity between the rich and the poor is a global issue. The article deals with the widening disparity between the east and the west of China by comparison of the productive level, the industrial structure, capital investment, financial revenue and expenditure, personal qualities, population growth and living standards between the northwestern minorities areas and the southeastern coastal provinces and cities and the whole country, and points out that the disparity will be likely to be the bane of social stability, national unity and economic development.
