| Abstract: | We can better understand many cognitive concepts with the help of orientational metaphors.The "up/down" metaphors,often found in our daily life,have developed richly metaphorical meanings in their spatial senses.This paper makes a contrastive analysis of the "up/down" metaphors in both English and Chinese.In the paper,not only the cognitive meanings of the "up/down" metaphors are analyzed,but also the cultural differences behind those metaphors are explored. |
