| Abstract: | The utilitarianism of the time has nurtured popular journals, and has held out chances for the vulgarization of academic journals as well. The orderly development of popular journals is certainly conductive to the cultivation of people's aesthetic taste, yet their influence on the reading public, alas, is rather limited. Only academic journals, if they can retard their unhealthy trend of utilitarianism and create an intellectual atmosphere, are able to perform the glorious task of reanimating the spirit of the time and influencing the decision making of government as well as social morals. |
