On Civil Personality during China's Modernization Process

Rooted in the existing system of civil society and devel oped from the spiritual value of civil ethic, civil personality is a profound cr iterion to unscramble the legitimacy of civil society and value rationality. The tendency of the civil society and the ethic appeals of citizens in the process of China's modernization determine the inevitable trend from traditional persona lity to civil personality. But, the molding of the civil personality in the proc ess of China's modernization takes place amid the context of traditional culture and the reality of modernization, thus it is restricted by both the history and reality. The absence in history and appeals in reality of civil personality det ermine that the personality transformation in the process of China's modernizati on is full of the expectation of the spirit modalities such as spirit of subject ivity, spirit of contract, spirit of normality, spirit of right equaling to obli gation and spirit of social justice.
