The influence of neotraditional-neighborhoodism on the planning of American small towns

With the expanding of the outskirts of big cities, more and more people begin to think about the development of the suburban areas. They consider it a waste of resources to build low\|density residential towns with vehicles as a main means of transportation. On the contrary, they regard these towns built in the old times with the characteristics of high\|density residence within walking distances as a model of being economical and of rich city life. With this thinking as a guideline of the city planning, the America begins its new planning program of building cities. This paper, taking the planning of Main Street in NOVI town as an example, explains the processes and the main points in planning landscape, street design and zone distributions. Meanwhile, it also states the differences of the background and motives of the neotraditional\|neighborhoodism with other city planning theories.
