教会大学与中国教育现代化

教会大学作为受到不平等条约保护、在特殊历史条件下出现的中外教育交流的载体,在中国大陆存在了70多年。而这一时期正是中国教育从传统向现代转换的重要时期。70多年间,教会大学为中国教育现代化培养了一批人才,促进了近代女子教育的发展。在传统封建教育衰败、瓦解直至被废除的历史过程中,教会大学所起的作用,总的来看,是加速而不是延缓了这个过程。对于近代新式教育的产生发展而言,教会大学以多种方式为推进这个过程作出了一定的贡献。

Christian Colleges and Educational Modernization in China

As a carrier of Sino-foreign educational exchanges born in the unusual historical context and protected by the unequal treaties,Christian colleges existed for more than seventy years in Chinese mainland,when Chinese education underwent an important transition from tradition to modernity.The Christian colleges cultivated a large number of personnel for educational modernization and promoted modern women's education in China.In short,they played an accelerating rather than decelerating role in the process of the downfall,disorganization and abolishment of the feudal education system in China.As far as the emergence and development of new education was concerned,the Christian colleges made a considerable contribution to the advance of that process in various ways.
