Shi Chaecho is regarded as one of the most outstanding figures in modern Korea. His subjective philosophy contains the subject＇s nature, ways of existence, historical signifi- cance, and the practical value. Shi practised his philosophical thoughts in his anti-Japanese imperialism activities, in his historical research as well as literary creation. He contributed his whole life to national independence with unyielding spirit. As a historian, he criticized the traditional history and colonialism history, and begun the study of Korea＇s modern history.
