| Abstract: | The street drama Put Down Your Whip is a very short but quite important text in Chinese modern literary history. Under the influence of the times context, it has been continually performed and adapted. From the rearrangement of its plot structure and the replacement of its subject, the "remaking" character generated in the discourse of enlightenment and saving China is observed. At the same time, this textual study can provide a successful experience for the adaptation research which crosses different cultures and historical periods. |
