Preliminary Study of Shitao's "One Stroke" Theory |

| Abstract: | Shitao's "One Stroke" Theory is broad and deep, forms a system by itself and has profound and lasting influence in the history of aesthetics. It states that one stroke is the basic law of generation and evolution of everything on earth. As a law, it's a law full of nimbus, a law of freedom and a law of infinitive variation; however in nature, it is a unity of form and spirit, a unity of heaven and man and a unity of internal life force and its external manifestation. Shitao derives it into a law of aesthetic creation for guiding people to create a lively second nature as God creates the universe, which has made great contribution to the development of aesthetic theories. |
