The Historical Significance of the Institutional Innovations from the Perspective of Social Changes in the West Zhou Dynasty

Historical experience has proved the fact that the liberation of the mind, the progress of culture and the introduction of new concepts as well as the related institutional innovations are the important factors for a country or a nation to make breakthroughs in development. This paper analyses the practice of the rulers of the West Zhou Dynasty after they defeated the powerful Shang Dynasty and concludes that their new institutions like the Patriarchal Clan Enfeoffment System, the Square-field System, and the Etiquette Culture helped lay a solid foundation for strengthening their rule and quickening their social development, from which we can see the great significance of institutional innovations.
