科技英语翻译中的语段等级

英国语言学家哈利迪在系统语法中提出语言等级的概念,即语言通常有五个语法单位,或五个等级,它们由高到低分为语段、句子、子句、词组和词素.语段,就是大于句子的语言片段.在语段的句子之间,意义上有一定的逻辑联系,结构上有较为密切的语法关系,形式上一般以一定的语言手段为组合的标志,与上下文既相互关联又相对独立.把语段等级为一个翻译单位,对其在翻译实践中的意义和作用,以及语段的切分和语段与翻译的等值关系等方面进行探讨和研究.

The Rank of Language Section in the Translation of Science and Technology

The Rank of Language is a concept put forward by English linguist M. A. K. Halliday in his Systemic Grammar. That is, language is often composed of 5 grammatical units, or 5 ranks. They are language sections, sentences, clauses, phrases and words. Language section is a group of sentences which have a certain logical con-nections in meaning and close grammatical links in construction. They are usually grouped together by some lin-guistic means and often connected with or independent of the context. This paper is in an attempt to make a dis-cussion and research on LS as a translation unit, its significance and function in translation practice. It also in-volves in LS division and the equivalent relationship between LS and translation.
