A Semiotic View of the "Naming Correction" of Confucius

The ancient Chinese concept of "naming" is a linguistic sign explored to refer to a thing or an object or to express a concept or idea. By "naming correction" Confucius meant to regulate the specific relations between names and their respective referential objects. From the modern semiotic point of view in linguistics, the "naming correction" initiated by Confucius is, in reality, not only a positive response to the "confusion between name and entity" in the early Qing society, but also a pioneering contribution to the establishment of the study of the ancient Chinese naming.
