Missionaries of Rethinking Postwar German Literature--Approaching Boell and Grass

We often commend the Germans for their deep self-reflection on their past but seldom carefully study their way of thinking nor analyze their methods. Postwar German literature offers us an adequate field to explore these issues. As two outstanding practitioners of this postwar reflective literature in Germany, Boell and Grass, Nobel Prize winners in literature, present us important texts for the study of the rethinking. Their styles of writing, plain but weighty, pungent and penetrating, expose to great extent the abnormal complex of power, human nature and traditional German culture, thus facilitating the construction of critical spirit in a post war-tortured Germany.
