范晔的文学审美论及其贡献

南朝刘宋时范晔既是史学家,也是文学美学家。于《后汉书》,首辟《文苑传》,成正史文人传记之先导。善在文史合议中发论,于前人史著,不惟评其史学价值,而且论其文学水准。范晔《狱中与诸甥侄书》是其文学美学思想的集中表述,也是中古文学美学史的经典文献。首言文意为主,首分文笔界限,首以文学审美之法撰写史之传论赞词。发论与撰述珠联璧合,史思与文情桴鼓相应。范晔于中国史学-美学实有大贡献。

On Fan Ye's Literary Aesthetics and His Contribution

Fan Ye was both a historian and a literary esthetician in Song's reign in the Southern Dynasties(AD 420-479).In History of the Later Han Dynasty,he initiated biography writing for literators in history books.Being good at combining history and literature,he remarked not only on the historical value but also literary level as regards the previous historical works.His Letters to my Nephews Written in Prison,being itself classic literature in literary aesthetics,contains most of his thoughts in the concerned field.It was he who first advocated content should outweigh the form in an article,who differentiated different genres in the light of the use of rhymes,and who composed historical works with an eye to literary esthetician.His comments and composition is a perfect pair,his historical thoughts and literary taste a unity.Chinese historiography and aesthetics indeed owes a lot to him.
