In the perspective of classical Chinese philosophy, the author tries to read Philip Sidney's "An Apology for Poetry",the aesthetic manifestation of the English humanism.With Sidney's deliberate and convincing arguments against a Puritan's condemnation of poetry and art as well as the significance of his work,the author has proven that Laozi's word "Countering,the movement of the Dao"is not only the Daoist language strategy of subversion,it is also the Daoist unconventional view of life,of the world,and is the classic summary of the rules of the movement in the universe by Daoism.Hence,it may apply to the interpretation of the Western literary theory.
