Zhao Wuniang and the Traditional Ethical Morality in the Chinese Classical Theater

Zhao Wuniang, the heroine in "The Story of PiPa", is a typical image of "filial woman and virtue wife" in the Chinese classical theater. This article intends to make a survey and contemplation from three aspects on this image and on the traditional ethical morality embodied by such characters in the classical theater with the contemporary concept on value and western humanistic ideology, hoping to come up with a new aesthetical elucidation in accordance with our present times.
