现代化不是一个从抽象思维中产生出来的理论概念,应当从历史经验的角度探寻其本质。现代化不仅仅是科学技术和生产力的发展,不只是经济增长,还需包括社会、政治、思想的现代化。非西方社会的现代化要在社会变革、思想文化的传承与创新、经济和政治制度创新、科学技术创新等方面做新的探索。当今世界发展的趋势和未来前景,是"世界体系"的扩展或曰"全球化"。全球化的大趋势对国家主权形成冲击,但主权国家仍然是世界体系的基本结构、基本格局。当前国际政治经济格局和全球化趋势给中国人带来难得的历史性机遇,然而,来自国外和内部的各种困难、挑战也将与机遇相伴随。

On the Essential Feature and Envisioned Future of Modernization

Modernization is not an abstract concept but a real process.We should search for its essential feature from the historical experiences.Modernization does not mean only the development of productive power,or economic growth,developments in social,political and ideological aspects are all important.Modernization in the non-western world needs new ideas in search of new routes for social change,cultural inheritance and innovation,economic and political system innovations,and innovation of science and technology.The future perspective of modern world is the expansion of the "world system",or "globalization",but the nation-state system is still the basic structure.Modernization in China today is facing a good opportunity as well as many difficulties.
