A Social Linguistic Approach to Language Taboos

As a common social occurrence, Chinese language taboos seep into all sides of life. While the characters with distinctive features influence its great development, the traditional literature strengthens its fascination in the peoples hearts. It also reflects the peoples knowledge for the functions of language symbols. But, however, it is the minds associative mechanism that makes the Chinese sound harmony as its foundation. More attention must be paid to language taboos during our cross-cultural communication.
