The Contemporary Significance of John Dewey's Philosophy

For evaluating the contemporary significance of John Dewey's philosophy, it is necessary to study the basic meaning of Dewey's philosophy and its relation with the tendency of Western philosophy as well as Marxist philosophy under the general background of the philosophic revolution of Karl Marx and the modern-contemporary turn of Western philosophy. This paper holds that the basic meaning of Dewey's philosophy is to emphasize real life and practice. The philosophical reconstruction of Dewey is adaptable to the trend of the contemporary change of Western philosophy. While there is a principal difference between the revolution of Marxist philosophy and the reconstruction of Dewey's philosophy, they lead to the same goal by different ways in transcending the limitations of modern philosophy.
