督粤期间的张之洞与华侨问题

张之洞督粤期间,采取过一系列积极的治粤方略,解决华侨海外受虐问题便是其中之一。张之洞认为华侨问题值得关注和重视,一方面,许多华侨具有爱国之心,每遇祖国有难,均慷慨捐资捐物;另一方面,侨民海外发展,既可一定程度缓解国内生存和就业的压力,又可帮助和支持国内经济的发展,改善和提高侨眷的生活水平。因此,当华侨在海外受到迫害时张之洞力主救助,并提出采取因地制宜的保护举措。张之洞对待华侨问题的积极态度和行为,不仅在当时使海外华侨的处境有所改善,而且至今仍发人深思。

As the governor of Guangdong Province,Zhang Zhidong took a series of effective measures to administer it,one of which is the solution to the problem of the maltreatment of the overseas Chinese.To him,this problem deserved concern and focus.One the one hand,many overseas Chinese were patriotic,offering donations without hesitation when the motherland was in troubles;on the other hand,their overseas migration could relieve the domestic employment pressure,and furthermore,help and support the economic development,improving the living standard of their relations.Therefore,when they suffered persecution abroad,Zhang Zhidong strongly advocated succor and put forward some proper move to protect them.His positive attitude and act not only improved the overseas Chinese's situation at that time,but still call for thought.
