" Tao" and " Phronesis ": A Comparative Study of Patterns of Technological Development

There is something in common,as well as something fundamentally different,between "Tao" in traditional Chinese philosophy and Aristotle’s "Phronesis".A research into the similarities and differences between the two will not only help understand different patterns of technological development in China and the western countries,but also shed light on how science and technology is related to society."Phronesis" has its roots in the western cultural traditions,which is an effective supplement to logical thinking whereas the concepts of "Tao" regulate the outcomes of technological development by providing another more illuminating perspective,which will contribute to shaping the technological trajectory towards a harmonious model of development through the mutual complementation between "Tao" and "Phronesis".
