话语有自然意义与非自然意义之分。Grice的会话含意理论总结了交际双方为顺利获得准确的会话含意而必须遵循的四大准则。但在很多情况下 ,说话人会出于某种原因而违反合作原则。Grice认为 ,此时听话人不能把话语理解为一般的自然意义 ,而应弄清说话人违反准则的目的 ,并推导出说话人意欲表达的隐含意义 ,即非自然意义。了解Grice的会话含意理论对正确使用和理解语言十分重要

Grice Conversational Implicature and English Learning

Meaning can be divided into natural and non-natural meaning. Grice conversational implicature focused its discussion on the Cooperate principle which is supposed to be the basis of any successful communication. Yet on many occassions, speakers would not follow the maxims for one reason or another. In this case, Grice thought listeners should not understand the information as natural meaning. Instead, they should first find out the speakers' motivation in doing so, then come out with the implied meaning, i.e., non-natural meaning. A knowledge of Grice conversational implicature is of great significance to the correct language expressing and understanding.
