Prophecies about Knowledge and Life:On the Theme in Byron's Plays Manfred and Cain

Manfred and Cain are the two representative plays of Byron, which reflect his thinking about the spirit of the individual. And the prophecies about knowledge and life can be read between the lines. The education about intellectual and emotional taught us that we should seek the truth, so we could not believe in the religion blindly. However, the painful plight in the reality allowed us to know the limitations of rationality itself, we had to need the final consolation in the religion. In such eontradietive moods, Byron thought the dialectical relationship between the reason and the faith. Knowledge, the means and ends of the human beings＇ knowing of the good and the evil; life, the various perplexities of the human beings＇ birth and death; rationality, the affirmation and the transeendences of the doubt and the faith. These three issues in Byron＇s plays were solved in his slow and further understanding process of Bible.
