| Abstract: | Markedness is certain asymmetry within a category.Sexism in English is obviously reflected by the asymmetry of gender marker in vocabulary.By using markedness theory,this article analyzes the asymmetry between male terms and female terms in terms of formal marking,semantic marking and distributional marking and reveals the sexual discrimination against women in English vocabulary. |
