He Zhuo's Study on Wang Shizhen's Poetry

Wang Shizhen was an authority figure in early Qing Dynasty, so it is of great significance to study his poetic theory and law of creation. Whereas, He Zhuo was a pioneer of textology, initiating the development of textual research since Emperor Qianlong. His research scope covers Confucian classics, with a lot of academic achievements kept in the form of critiques, which wins him a master in collation and criticism. His studies on Wang Shizhen＇s poetic theory and creation are kept in his collated Selected Poem and Yuyang Excerption. What He Zhuo studied is to reveal the style and origin of Wang Shizhen＇s poetry, and analyze his creative path of epitomizing the thoughts of his predecessors, thus forming a relatively complete historical understanding of the periodic characteristics in Wang Shizhen＇s poetry. What both Wang Shizhen and He Zhuo highlight is the tradition of Confucian gentle and kind poetry, which reflects the requirement for literature during the Heyday of Kangxi.
