文儒与吏能之争在有效促成开元盛世的清明政治文化的同时，也完善了文儒诗学的理论思考。有唐文学在开元、天宝之时，达其极盛，诗家辈出，佳作如林。大体言之，盛唐诗歌的艺术风格，可分为前后两期，前期以浪漫高华为主体风格，后期则转入沉郁顿挫。然风格虽有转变，但成就前后两期风格乃至成就盛唐诗歌风格的仍为“气”与“情”：“气”盛而“情”真。盛唐文学的文化精神亦因之而凸显。
