Interpretation of middle eastern cities in Hellenistic period from perspective of civilization exchange

With the Greece-Macedonia expansion, the un-precedent exchange and integration between eastern and western civilizations in human history started from the late 4th century BC to the 3th century BC. Thanks to the Greece-Macedonia＇s enthusiasm on cities, not only did original cities flourish, but also a number of new cities sprang up in the middle east. What＇s more, with the emergence of the ＂international＂ city, the new elements, such as autonomy, new urban form, municipal and non-governmental organizations, appeared in urban civilization. Meanwhile, the establishment of the cities not only ensured the victory of the expansion war and promoted the development of urban trade and economic prosperity, but also boosted the first great fusion and innovation between eastern and western civilizations. There is no doubt that the urbanization movement in Hellenistic period shortens the distance between the present and past.
