运用认知语言学中的意象图示、凸显理论及空间隐喻理论,研究英语中的方位词outof的基本意象图示、语义延伸的心理认知过程和意义结构。研究表明,outof的核心意义来自其在空间范畴中的意象图示,这种基本意象图示可分为静态图示和动态图示两种。通过隐喻机制的作用,这种基本意象图式得以扩展,从而实现了outof从空间范畴向＂范围＂、＂状态＂、＂分离＂、＂来源＂、＂原因＂等多种抽象范畴的辐射,由此延伸出大量的隐喻意义,从而形成了outof的多种语义的网络体系。

A Cognitive Study of the Basic Image Schema and Metaphorical Extension of the Preposition "out of "

This paper mainly deals with the basic image schema and metaphorical extension of the preposition ＂out of ＂ based on the image schema ,salience and spatial metaphor theory in the cognitive linguistics. This research indicates that the core meanings of ＂out of＂ are formed by the basic spatial image schema which consists of static schema and dynamic one. Through the metaphor mechanism,the basic schema can be extended to many abstract domains such as ＂Scope＂,＂tate＂,＂Separation＂,＂Source＂ and ＂Reason＂ forming the semantic network of ＂out of ＂. the preposition ＂out of ＂ has been applied not only to the spatial domain but also to other domains like ＂Scope＂ ＂State＂,＂Separation＂,＂Source＂ and ＂Reason＂ It should be noted that studies of metaphorical extension of basic schemas to other domains have practical as well as theoretical implications.
