生态人类学是一门以人类的生态安全为研究对象与归宿的高度综合、高度理论化的哲理性学科。就其本质而言,它既依托于各种很不相同的自然科学和社会科学,同时又坚持超大尺度,长周期的观察,使自然科学与社会科学在自己的理论框架中得到整合,从哲理层面探讨人类社会存在的生态意义及其运行的生态后果,并以此为依据建构一套哲理性的思想方法,使自己对人类社会与地球生命体系的寄生并存关系获得较为全面周详的认识。
