清末日本在福建活动述论

日本和福建的关系在1895年日本占领台湾后发生了重要转折,日本试图多方面在福建渗透其势力。力量不足时,日本对福建的图谋常受到列强牵制。甲午战争、八国联军侵华战争和日俄战争奠定了日本在中国与列强争夺的基础,日本又能利用诸如“清末新政”等时机,快速在福建扩张经济文化势力和政治影响力,这也是近代甲午战后一段时期日本在中国大陆扩张的一个缩影。

On Penetration of Japanese Power in Fujian in the Late Qing Dynasty

The relationship between Japan and Fujian took a crucial turn after Japanese occupation of Taiwan in 1895.While Japan intended in many aspects to penetrate its power in Fujian,its attempts were very often contained by the then western powers.The First Sino-Japanese War,Russo-Japanese War and the invasion of China by the Eight-Power Allied Forces had all laid the ground for the Japanese competition with the western powers in China for its interests."The Late Qing New Policies" opened up an opportunity for a fast expansion of Japanese political,cultural and economic influences in Fujian,which was only a microcosm of the Japanese expansion in mainland China of that period.
