In the early years of Jin Dynasty, Wu Ji, a renowned writer of ci poetry, stood as a transitional figure straddling both Song and Jin Dynasties. He took the leading role in introducing learning of the previous dynasty to the latter and made a remarkable contribution to the formation of literature of Jin Dynasty. Meanwhile, the role he played as a trailblazer in the field of arts should not be underestimated due to the fact that he was one of the foremost exponents of Mi Fu, though his own works of calligraphy and painting are yet to be unearthed.
