On the Artistic Sources of Degradation--Yu Dafu''s Reception and Revision of Satou Harou''s Literary Thought

The birth of a literary work must be the result of the author's artistic passion and creation. As to the artistic sources of Yu Dafu's Degradation, we contend that (1) Yu Dafu's early literary perspective had been enormously influenced by the Japanese romantic writer Satou Haruo; (2) Satou Haruo's Pastoral Melancholy had inspired Yu Dafu in the artistic techniques of Degradation; (3)Yu Dafu's life experience and stay in Japan had provided him with literary materials; and (4) the imbalance between Yu Dafu's spiritual and material lives had resulted in his creative zeal.
